In April 2023, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed the bill “Concerning Public School Employee Professional or Labor Organizations” into law as Act 776 (PDF). It prohibits public schools from allowing payroll deductions for union dues. While Local 965 has never used payroll deductions since it joined AEA/NEA in January 2020 (for privacy concerns) and although it’s a public university, AEA must change dues collection throughout. All chapter members will use NEA’s eDues app.

The good news for UA-Fayetteville EA is that it’s simpler than before.

• New member? Head to NEA’s eDues online form. The membership form is a financial agreement, so read carefully. AEA, NEA and Local 965 are unified; membership is required in all organizations.
• Current members must affirm or update their choice of bank draft or credit card right away by completing this online form. Find your membership number on your union card and recent AEA emails.

Local 965 also welcomes membership from retired UA staff and faculty, aspiring educators including grad students intending to teach postsecondary, and our community allies.
